When you set an intention, it’s like making a decision about what you wish to attract to yourself. When you decide something absolutely, the universe then responds based on your thoughts. If there is enough of belief behind your thoughts then what you want to attract to yourself will be pulled to you. This is the Law of attraction. When you set an intention you are sending out a signal to the universe. You’re saying to the universe that this event is an experience you wish to draw to yourself in the future.
Intention is a very powerful tool, because it can get you through your life over the long haul. It’s very easy to get lost in the day-to-day struggles of living this life. There’s so much to do on a daily basis that it’s easy to lose sight of where you’re navigating your ship. (more…)

Take the experience of the past and use it in the present moment. Don’t spend any time back there. There are no answers in the past because all the power is in the present moment. Sometimes you have to go back there to piece together what happened, but if you stay back there for any length of time it’s a big trap because that place doesn’t exist anymore. Your mind can live back there though. It’s like being caught in a time warp. You are stuck in the spider’s web of the past event that hurt you and all your energy goes back there to re-fight these fights or relive these events that no longer exist.
Unfortunately there’s a therapy culture that revolves around this type of regression. The idea is to find painful experiences in the past and bring them to light by discussing them. The point of going back, is to accept that it happened, but that takes a millisecond. (more…)

I was talking with my class about this earlier today. Spirituality is between you and the creator. Any human being, even the most saintly among them is going to have imperfections. Don’t get me wrong, there are some damn good humans out there but each one of them has the same temptations and struggles that you do with your mind. The only difference is that exceptional humans bring a courage to life that allows them to conquer the vicissitudes of their minds and stay centered on a single path.
“It’s not the life that matters, it’s the courage you bring to it.” –Yogi Bhajan
The trouble is when we see someone great, we want to idolize them. We want to put them on a pedestal and make gods of them. (more…)

Joseph Campbell’s mantra was always “Follow Your Bliss.” As the foremost authority on mythology, JC scoured the worlds stories and myths and concluded that we are all the same hero in all of these stories. We are simply metaphors for the hero whose journey we follow and it represents the same journey that each and every one of us takes as humans experiencing consciousness on the earth. Thus, the worlds myths teach us how to live as heroes through the symbols within their story.
Follow your bliss.
The heroic life is living the individual adventure.
Joseph Campbell also said that like warriors, we should participate with joy in the sorrows of the world. The only way to completely en-Joy yourself in this life is if you can participate with joy in it all– the good as well as bad. (more…)

I was on a yoga retreat in Tuscany Italy a few years ago and I realized that Karma is really just like a big game of air hockey. After a week of yoga, a few of us sat around talking and drinking some wine on the last night in this amazing 11th century farmhouse. Now you have to understand when you’re doing yoga and meditating alot, particularly with Kundalini Yoga, people can be strange, because a lot of stuff comes out of you when you meditate. It’s actually a lot like that old Bill Cosby joke:
I said to a guy, “Tell me, what is it about cocaine that makes it so wonderful,” and he said, “Because it intensifies your personality.” I said, “Yes, but what if you’re an asshole?” (more…)

To put it simply as I can:
- God is inside you.
- God is in everything you see.
- There is nothing that God is that you are not.
- There is nothing that you are that God is not.

I went to this acting workshop once and the guys running it were real guys of faith. All of them working actors. They spoke of having a positive attitude among many other concepts for being successful in such an erratic profession as acting. I noticed one guy, whenever you asked him how he was, he’d say: “I’m blessed, brother.” However, the look in his eyes was fear, like he didn’t believe it, but rather he was hoping somehow it would be true as soon as possible. Even with his apparent success, he was there with his partners giving this workshop to remind himself of all the things that were working in his life. You could tell he believed them all, but the look in his eyes was fear– as though he didn’t actually feel it. What he was doing was holding the space with his mantra: “I’m blessed, brother.” (more…)
